How to Use Hair Straighteners?

Hair straightening irons are very easy to use. Simply take small sections of hair, place the irons at the root of the section and work through to the ends. It is advisable to apply a light pressure at the root and increase the pressure towards the ends for more control of the hair.

How to Use Hair Straightener Properly?

  • Shampoo the hair and condition it as normal.
  • Hair will still show curls and waves.
  • Apply serum to hair. Amount depends on type and length of hair.
  • Spread serum in palms and rub into hair, smoothing the hair along its length.
  • Use a hair dryer and paddle brush and start drying the hair encouraging straightness by brushing through the hair as you dry. Set the hairdryers temperature to medium until hair is completely dry.
  • Already hair will show signs of straightening but is still frizzy and dry and lacks shine.(Straightness would not last)
  • With medium or long hair use clips to separate hair so that you can concentrate on one section at a time.
  • Starting at the front with a small section of hair use you straightener down the length is a swift smooth motion.
  • Repeat this step on the next section and continue using small sections right round the head.
  • Always run the straightener from top, down the hairs length and continue until straightener runs off the hair at the end and hair falls away. Do not stop at any point and try to keep the sweep even and consistent.
  • On larger sections you may need to repeat the run with the straightener 2-3 times.
  • Once the majority of hair has been straightened finish the style by blending at the ends. With no clips run the straightener close to the ends and off the ends of the hair. This will stop separation that might occur when using sectioning clips.
  • You should be left with sleek shiny frizz free straight hair which should last a long time.

I have curly/frizzy hair, will the make it right? My mum says if i straighten it, it will go all dry and fall out. Is this true? Do these make it not dry and so it wont fall out? Please answer xxx

I have really frizzy hair, even in the dry heat, but Frizz-Ease has this Flawless Finishing creme and just a little bit after your done styling your hair makes a HUGE difference. You should try it if your hair is too frizzy.

I have really wavy hair... so when i straighten it it gets really dry at the ends.... i just got it cut and it looks and feels amazing! but this can only last until i wash it again.. cause i have to do that sooner or laterrr! lol.. but what should i do with the ends to make it look smoother and more moisturizedd :]]??

I have the same curly, frizzy hair. i have been begging my mom to let me do something with it. she went up to the salon and they said a specific straightner would work. i went and bought the straightner and it worked so well!!!! it is a ceramic wet/dry professional straightner. get one and your problems will be GONE. :]

People writing into this blog must "need to know how to use a flat iron" since it IS the title of the blog itself. If you do not need to know I'm sure there are other blogs to be opinionated apon. You will very likely still need to use a flat iron even after you get your hair "perminantely straightened". Depending on the coarseness and/or curl texture of your hair. A "perminant Straightener" only works until you get regrowth. To the best of my knowledge they're not altering genetics yet.

The best iron I've found is the GHD MK4...I have over the years collected 6 different brands and GHD works the best. If your hair is extremely curly and you live in a humid climate...Blow out the hair first, this encourages straightness. Use a heat protector such as GHD Thermodynamics. Take small sections. There are a few free videos floating around on U-Tube...teaching the fine art of flat ironing.

Hi, I have really curly hair and it's all a mess. Quite frizzy and dry. I can't control it. Can you tell me an effective way of moisturising it?

by lucy from UK on Sep 14, 08

I've never straightened my hair before, since I'd see people who straightened their hair everyday with kind of damaged hair [no offence or anything], but my hair's really kind of...not really wavy, but yeah, a bit wavy. So if I just straighten it once a week, will it still damage it? If I use leave in conditioner and serum and stuff?

by lou-lou from uk on Aug 7, 08
