Liscio Japanese Hair Straightening

Liscio Japanese Hair Straightening is an innovative new technique from Japan to make frizzy, curly or wavy hair completely straight while preserving the hair's health. In the past, people were concerned that if they straightened their hair, they would damage it significantly, and this was true. It is not true any more. Hair can be straightened much more effectively with the Japanese Liscio techniques with much less damage to the hair.

Japanese Hair Straightening typically will improve the hair's feel, softness and shine while making it more manageable!

What is Liscio Japanese Hair Straightening and its History?

The first question we are usually asked about Japanese Hair Straightening (also called Thermal Reconditioning) is "Why do the Japanese need to have their Hair Straightened? They already have straight hair!" Actually this is just not true. Many Japanese have wavy or kinky hair.

How is Japanese Hair Straightening Done?

Japanese Hair Straightening is a fairly involved procedure. It can take between 4 and 8 hours to complete depending on your hair length and volume. Salons in LA charge upwards of $500 USD to do this procedure. You will be happy that Aoi Beauty Studio does not charge that much!! Click Here to see how much we charge for Liscio Japanese Hair Straightening.

The Liscio Hair Straightening System & Shiseido Crystallizing is as follows:

  1. Assessing the hair type and condition.
  2. Washing the hair.
  3. Applying protein to the hair, if necessary for the particular customer and hair type. (small extra charge for this procedure, if you don't do this when necessary, you could end up with a less than satisfactory result, the stylist will tell you if this is necessary or not in your consultation)
  4. Applying Solution #1 (this cuts the hair's "Cystine Bonds" - the bonds that hold curl or wave patterns).
  5. Testing to see when the hair is ready to have Solution #1 rinsed out.
  6. Rinsing the hair.
  7. Eliminating some excess moisture in the hair (blow-drying to a certain point).
  8. Ironing the hair in extremely small sections with a special Japanese Straightening Iron that reaches temperatures of 180 degrees Celsius. Don't worry, this will not damage your hair unnecessarily.
  9. Applying Solution #2 to the hair after ironing is completed.
  10. Rinsing the hair and conditioning.
  11. Drying the hair and applying a flat iron to remove excess moisture if necessary.

Recently I had my Liscio Treatment done for the sixth year with the same stylist, I love his technique. Michael owner of Hot Gossip in Boston. 2 wks later I go to his salon to purchase my conditioner "er"... to find out that he closed his salon with no prior notification to his loyal customer-"that would be me!" Now I am in the tedeiuos task of finding a stylist that will keep me happy and my hair healthy. Im mourning the loss of that hair salon they were great, the prices, the ambience, service, everything. If anyone knows of Liscio's specialist in Boston please help me out!

I get my hair done at Bergen Salon every year. The owner there does a beautiful job! My hair always comes out straight and silky. What I love about her is that no matter how damaged my hair is, she knows how to work with it. A few years back, I got Liscio straightening done at another salon and was traumatized. They totally burned my hair and my hair was so frizzy. Every salon said I had to wait to grow my hair out. After waiting one year, I went to Bergen Salon and told her my story. She said not to worry about it and that she would try her best to work with my hair. Several hours later, my hair was straight and silky. After that, I have referred all my friends to her. Not only is she great, she charges a very decnt price! Trust me, you wont regret it! :)

Had my hair done by Joanna several times. Really did like her until I found out that a 'true' TR is supposed to be putting protectant cream on the hair that is not being treated (touch ups), and this was not done. I found out that this is an 'express' TR, but meanwhile you are charged the full price. As with some of the other posts, my hair starting breaking and falling out. And OMG, Rob is intolerable. I can't agree enough with the person who wrote he is rude, obnoxious, and somehow thinks he is pleasant to look at. Also, he is a rip-off. I stopped going for all of these reasons and am now trying to find someone/somewhere who truly knows what they are doing.

I have frizzy, long, curly hair and want to have my hair cut like Lisa Rinnas and then have the LTC done, what do you think?

Will it work, can I still flip it, or have any style to my hair once it has the LTC done?

After reading Asma Ahmed's comments here I went to the beauty choice salon. Apparently they did not do a good job on my hair. I ended up with some straight and some kinky, frizzy hair. They quoted $160 on the phone and I ended up paying $200 for TR on short hair and they made me buy products for another $100. Now I will go back tomorrow to show them my hair. I definetly do not want to pay another dime for fixing it because they should have done it right the 1st time.

I highly recommend Beauty Choice Salon located on Bellaire Blvd. in Houston. I have very curly Dominican hair. I spend a lot of money getting my hair blow dryed every week. Until I discovered Joyce and Patrick. They are amazing. I still can't believe that I have straight hair. If you are in the area and looking for japanese straight hair for under $200 bucks- this is the place to go.

I'm looking for a salon that does the Liscio Japanese Hair Straightening in the Boston Massachusetts or Providence Rhode Island area.

Hair Village in Queens is great. Prices range from $150-$180. you can't beat that. I've done the Liscio Hair Straightening 2 times and I know plently of people who have also gone there. People from LI, NJ, and the city all go to this place because that is basically all they do. its not a 4 star place but they do a great job. get there early because it gets crowded.

I have been doing the Liscio Japanese straightening for 3 years now. I have long hair and I have only had to do it just once a year. My hair is healthy no split ends no breakage. I go to a lady in Chinatown New York. She is excellent. Her prices depend on the length of your hair $180. to $220. but she is worth every penny. I don't know the name of the salon but it's at 179 Grand Street in Chinatown. Her name is
Isabel, 212-226-6450.

I've been having the Liscio hair straightener done for over two years by Alizabeth at Cush Salon in Los Angeles on Robertson just south of Wilshire. She does an amazing job and I've never had any breakage. It costs about $500 the first time and $300-400 for root touch-ups (includes haircut and blowdry). It's a lot for me to spend although not that much considering it's L.A. and now I have the shiny, straight, full-bodied hair I've always dreamed of. Well worth it!

I know people who have had this done, over a period of time there hair gets thinner and thinner, dry looks horriable. Looks beautiful at first. My hair is natural curly, but is healthy. some women would rather have straight strings hanging from there head, than real hair

I got my hair straightened at Hudson Hair also with Joanna. She is great, but Rob is not. My hair actually turned out ok... (I had previously lost a huge chunk of hair before at another place). My hair is really dry now - any suggestions on what products to use now to get my hair soft again?
