This was the best flat iron I've ever owned...until the temperature guage went crazy and shut off while using it. Never went back on. I just went on this site to see about getting it replaced and decided to read the reviews. So glad I did. Seems like most people had the same problem I just experienced. Just purchased myself a SEDU flat iron. Reviews are fantastic!! Happy Styling to all!

Melted Hair

I like the way the hair feels, whenever the styler setting doesn't goes up by it self. Sometimes the setting goes up and there is a possibility that it will melt your hair. The first time this happen I thought that my finger accidentally hit the setting, but I stopped curling the hair and looked at the temperature setting and it went up all by it self as soon as I turned it down.

IGNORE THE BAD REVIEWS--

Like most of you, I saw the infomercial, and after using the PINK CHI for the last 2 years, I figured I'd give this one a try. I have VERY thick, almost LION like hair, very coarse, frizzy, colored..very nappy.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this flat iron. First of all, it takes 1/2 the time my chi did, you dont have to squeeze down to straighten it, and you nly have to go over the hair once. For those of you who have gotten "melted" hair, LOWER the temperature. LIke any other product this WILL have defects..
If you have "asian" hair, DONT try this, make life easier and get a 30 dollar flat iron.. This flat iron should be used for only thick, coarse, poofy hair.
TRY IT!! :)

I purchased in Spring 2008 and spent extra on 2 yr warranty. 3 months ago the cord started making crackling sound and shuting off all by itself. Got alhold of Co. & had to pay $20 for S & H (so much for paying extra for warranty). New one arrived to find it defective and broken. I am still trying to resolve issue with Co. and I think I am wasting my time. Its been 2 months now & both irons are going in the GARBAGE!!!!

Debating to pay 20.00 + shipping for new iron

I've had my little silver beauty in it's original box with everything included even the 19.99 check at my office anticipating taking it across the street to the UPS store to send it back and get another one. My iron also changed the temp on its own and without knowing it I burned the front of my hair. It now is a crinkled mess. Thankfully I only did a small section before realizing it had heated up to over 400 and when I tried to adjust the tempature it shut off and would not come back on. After researching the product I have now decided against getting another one and take it as a 150.00 lesson learned. I had the iron for several months but rarely used it. I purchased my daughter a Farouk Chi several Xmas ago and she has very long thick hair and uses it everyday. Just recently the on/off switch started to malfunction and I called the Corp. office in Houston and they said to mail it back and include a 35.00 check and they would replace it. I think I paid around 120.00 for the iron, limited edition breast cancer awareness pink version and it was well worth the price and I will be sending it to them today without a second thought. My Kiyoseki will be going in the trash in the box it came in unless one of you true fans of the product would like to have it. You pay me 20.00 + shipping and it's yours!

Broke after 90 days

I bought this product and chose not to get the 90 day warranty because I didnt think it would stop working in such a short amount of time. It completely quit working just after I had it 90 days and I called to see if they would replace it and they would not. This company DOES NOT stand behind their product and does not care about customer service. I would not recommend this to anyone and I certainly would not recommend doing business with this company.

I bought the Kiyoseki hair styler a few months ago. I was overall pleased with how well it flatened my hair. Because I have extremely frizzy, and curly hair. Though I did notice that it will burn small bits of hair of if it is set to high, I go only up to 365, past that it burns my hair. Also if you set it to high it gives your a burnt smell. This goes away about an hour after you flaten it. But I have noticed a huge difference in how healthy my hair has been since I have been using this hair flatener, it doesnt damage my hair the way my other flateners did. Also I wouldnt recoment using the shine spray that mine came with. It makes your hair shiny but greasy. Also do not buy the Kiyoseki hair flatener at the price it offers on the website or in the add, you can find it for a much lower price. I payed around 140 dollars but recently have seen it being sold for around 119 dollars and lower.

I was really excited when I first got my straightener! It wasn't long after that the tempature gage went nuts! It would all of the sudden be on the highest setting. The buttons would get stuck and not turn on or off. Now, not long after the wonderful 60 warrenty it does not even come on. I guess the "60" day warrenty should have told me something. If they are not willing to stand behind it any longer than that there must be problems!!

Bad Investment

I thought the kiyoseki worked good in the beginning and then around day 50 there was a popping sound, smoke, a burning smell, and it quit working. After repeated attempts to start it up nothing worked. I called to verify the terms to return it and was told if it was not received by them by the end of the warranty period, I would not get a refund. I sent it back and it was received in their warehouse five days prior to the deadline and after waiting more than a month there was no refund or communication from them. When I called, they told me they had posted the return receipt as one day after the deadline, thus no refund would be given. I gave them the tracking number from the postal service and they confirmed it was received earlier and gave me the refund. If you do purchase this or already have and return it for a refund, make sure you send it back so it will be "received in their warehouse" prior to the deadline and be sure to get a tracking number from the post office so you can track it and verify when it is actually received by them.

ok, this is my 3rd time posting and sending a lovely message to all you poeple who say you love it....how dare you make us, the ones whos hair was damaged by this product feel so little? teling us to read directions and use the correct settings....are you kidding? Obviously we are saying that the settings are changing on their own, who makes that stuff up? I think we are well aware of whether or not we are pressing the button on accident...yes, i did that a few times until i realized how to properly handle it....my iron's temp setting went crazy...changing all on its own while it sat on my counter....oh, but wait...my hands must of been doing that....it seems to me that most of the reviews are NEGATIVE...which tells you this company has a lot to "iron" out in order for this product to be satisfiable. FOr those of you waiting a refund, u have to keep calling them. i sent my back over a month ago and just called them back and they are like "it takes 3-5 days to get refund" i was like "yea, well i sent it back a month ago" and she was like "well, i see it was sent back but i dont know why it wasnt refuned, ill do that right now" yea, we'll see if she really did it on my next billing account!

BURNED MY HAIR

i liked the kiyoseki at the beginning and then after i had it for a month, it would just randomly change from 250 degrees to 410 degrees within seconds without me even touching it? and they guarantee that it wont fry your hair? i fried mine so bad that my bleech blonde hair turned ugly orange and over a month later the hair broke off and is still dirt brown. it may straighten your hair good, but it fries it and i never use it anymore o, and the only way the kiyoseki can "curl" your hair is if a professional is doing it its nearly impossible to curl your hair dont spend 130 dollars on this straightener save your money!!!!!

I never buy from infomercials, but was really intrigued by this product. I looked and researched and thought that I'd done my homework (I evidently missed seeing this site). So, I coughed up the money and bought this product this last September. I have moderately curly hair and the Kyoseki worked very, very well. Hmmm, I did notice that the temperature gauge was fluctuating into the high 400 degree range, but I thought that I'd done it somehow. Everything was great until today . . .. I was in the middle of straightening my hair (while periodically checking to make sure that the temp was 340 degrees) and all was going well until I SMELLED SOMETHING AWFUL and realized that it was my hair!!! It absolultely melted off a huge hunk of hair close to my scalp. I'm so upset, I can't even see straight at this point!!! I called Kyoseki right away and demanded my money back. They said that they'll be sending me a prepaid shipping label for me to return the product with a promise that they will be refunding my money. I certainly hope so and I will let you know if they do, indeed, live up to their promise. I still don't know how I'm going to fix my hair. I can't believe that I fell into their promises. Please, save your money and do not buy this product!!!

I'm glad I read the reviews too, was a bit interested when I saw the infomercial - being a hairdresser it's always interesting seeing whats new on the market. The fact that I read a review saying ti goes over 400 degrees is frightening! Most professional irons go up to 220 degrees and thats ample to straighten or curl the frizziest out of control hair. 400 Degrees - kiss your hair goodbye!

Great for Black Hair

So I have tightly coiled natural hair, and I am Black. I didn't think that this iron would work because I don't like damaging heat stylers and the only other ones out there for me, usually don't work. It took my mother three months to convince me to buy this iron. i was looking to change up my style without relaxing my strands and the free return shipping was a plus.
This iron is awesome. No question. The CHI is only $30 cheaper and may not even have the digital reader. Anyone whose had trouble with this just doesn't knokw how to use it. It comes with a how-to DVD. The digital scale adjusts to the temperature that you set and it only brns your hair if you press down hard for too long in one area. All of which are common sense. DOn't pay any more for a flat iron. This has renewed my faith in informercials, lol. PS, the smell is the oil that they put on the Kyoseki and they note in the iser manual that it is normal for it to come off and smell. Read the instructions.

PLEASE, IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A GOOD IRON, DON'T BE FOOLED BY CARMEN ELECTRA ENDORSING THIS! This iron initially worked great. As a matter of fact, my hair isn't even wavy anymore, not even when I get out of the shower. I am asian and have very thick, coarse hair. I set it to the highest heat setting for this reason, but my ends did get fried. about 5-6 months after using it, it would shut off in the middle of using it. Now, mind you, I even purchased the add'l 2 year warranty. What a fool. I returned the iron, only to be told I wasn't getting my money back becuase I was outside the 60 day money guarantee and I also didn't call in before returning the iron, I just mailed it. So long story short, DO NOOOOOT BUY THIS!

The same exact thing happened to me that everyone else is saying. I used my kiyoseki for about the fourth time and all of a sudden I noticed the temperature dial going crazy (up and down up and down). I smelled something awful and it just turned off. My hair smelled terribly burnt for about a week and the damn thing never turned back on. Luckily, I was able to get a free replacement since I had purchased a two year warranty, but I have no doubt that it will probably just happen again. Do not waste your money on the k styler. It works GREAT until it just quits working for good.
